No. 886 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, World War II was a historic and cataclysmic event 1-3 which touched the lives of millions of Americans; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The people of the United States were united in common 1-5 cause throughout the period of World War II; and 1-6 WHEREAS, More than 16 million Americans served in the 1-7 United States Armed Forces during World War II, in which more than 1-8 400,000 Americans lost their lives; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The sacrifices and contributions of those who served 1-10 in the United States Armed Forces during World War II are deserving 1-11 of commemoration, honor, and recognition; and 1-12 WHEREAS, V-E Day, May 8, 1995, marks the 50th anniversary of 1-13 the total defeat and surrender of Germany and the conclusion of 1-14 armed conflict in the European Theater of the war, thus moving the 1-15 world nearer to the close of World War II and the ushering in of 1-16 the greatest era of peace the world has ever known; now, therefore, 1-17 be it 1-18 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-19 74th Legislature, hereby call upon all citizens of Texas to 1-20 observe May 8, 1995, as the 50th anniversary of Victory in Europe 1-21 and commend the veterans of America's Armed Forces in World War II 1-22 for their courage, honor, sacrifice, and dedication to their country 1-23 in the cause of justice, freedom and democracy; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared under the 2-2 Seal of the Senate in commemoration of those valiant men and women 2-3 who served with loyalty and steadfastness in the United States Armed 2-4 Forces during World War II. 2-5 ______________________________________ 2-6 President of the Senate 2-7 I hereby certify that the above 2-8 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-9 on May 2, 1995. 2-10 ______________________________________ 2-11 Secretary of the Senate 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 Member, Texas Senate
