    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Over the course of the past century, Gladys Earl
    1-3  Beckham has lived a life as vast as the state she is proud to call
    1-4  home, and it is indeed a great pleasure to honor her at this time
    1-5  for she has not only lived life, but has embraced it to the
    1-6  fullest; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Born during the administration of
    1-8  President Grover Cleveland, she came into this world on
    1-9  January 29, 1895, in the community of Groesbeck, where her father
   1-10  was a local businessman; blessed with the support and guidance of
   1-11  devoted parents, she enjoyed a happy childhood amid the company of
   1-12  four brothers and sisters; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, In 1914, she was united in holy matrimony to
   1-14  Samuel Tracy Beckham, with whom she shared a warm and fulfilling
   1-15  marriage of many years duration until his passing; the couple made
   1-16  their home in a number of Texas communities through the years,
   1-17  including Marlin, Fort Worth, and Coolidge, during which time they
   1-18  entered a new chapter in their life together when they became the
   1-19  proud parents of three sons, John A. Beckham, James Beckham, and
   1-20  Lloyd Beckham; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, In the ensuing years, Mrs. Beckham has been
   1-22  filled with joy as her children have had families of their own
   1-23  and she has witnessed the birth of three succeeding generations
    2-1  of her distinguished Texas family, including her nine grandchildren,
    2-2  John Frank, James, David, Bradley, Patricia, James Thomas, Stephen,
    2-3  Richard, and Tracey, her 12 great-grandchildren, Tracy, John David,
    2-4  Stacey, Stephanie, Brady, Gina, Patrice, Dustin, Scott, Stephen, Jr.,
    2-5  Austin, and Fawn, as well as six great-great-grandchildren; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, At the age of 100, Mrs. Beckham continues to fill
    2-7  her leisure time with embroidering pillows and wall hangings that
    2-8  are certain to become treasured family heirlooms, and she also enjoys
    2-9  such relaxing pursuits as watching television, reading, and visiting
   2-10  with family and friends; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, On January 20, 1995, Mrs. Beckham was the guest of
   2-12  honor at a special party that was held to celebrate her 100th
   2-13  birthday, and this occasion meant a great deal to her family and
   2-14  friends for it accorded them an opportunity to share with her a
   2-15  small bit of the joy and hope she has imparted to all who have
   2-16  shared her love and friendship through the years; now, therefore,
   2-17  be it
   2-18        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-19  74th Legislature, hereby congratulate Gladys Earl Beckham on the
   2-20  occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
   2-21  for continued happiness in the coming year; and, be it further
   2-22        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared
   2-23  for Mrs. Beckham as an expression of highest regard by the Senate
   2-24  of the State of Texas.
