    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                      Mary Thelma Pettigrew Bray
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
    1-6  of Dallas in mourning the loss of Mary Thelma Pettigrew Bray who
    1-7  died October 16, 1994, at the age of 91; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born August 25, 1903, in Rockwall, Texas,
    1-9  Thelma Pettigrew, after completing the ninth grade, raised and
   1-10  sold hogs for tuition to business school in Dallas, where she found
   1-11  a job before completion of secretarial school; she rode the trolley
   1-12  to her work in a movie supply house and married Austin Coleman Bray,
   1-13  an East Texas movie theater builder; they were among the first
   1-14  residents in Highland Park, Texas; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Thelma Bray was dedicated to her work as a homemaker
   1-16  and was an exemplary lady who was respected in the community for
   1-17  her many accomplishments; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, During her lifetime, she witnessed two world wars,
   1-19  the invention of the airplane and television, and the landing of
   1-20  astronauts on the moon, and she experienced sailing across the
   1-21  Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Thelma Bray had an indomitable spirit that carried
   1-23  her and her loved ones through difficult times, and when she became
    2-1  ill late in her life, her valor in the face of the debilitating
    2-2  Alzheimer's disease was touching and inspirational; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity, she
    2-4  gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, warmth,
    2-5  and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mrs. Bray was a member of the
    2-7  First Baptist Church where she served as secretary for the chapel
    2-8  choir; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Thelma Bray was a devoted wife and mother, and she
   2-10  leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family
   2-11  and many friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-14  bereaved family of Mary Thelma Pettigrew Bray:  her daughter,
   2-15  Mary Geneva Bray Johnson; and her son, Austin C. Bray, Jr.; and,
   2-16  be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-18  members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-19  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-20  in memory of Thelma Bray.
