    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride
    1-3  in joining the Highland Lakes Democratic Women in recognizing
    1-4  Lillian Moore Dean, an outstanding citizen of our country; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of women's
    1-6  suffrage, the Highland Lakes Democratic Women are hosting a
    1-7  celebration honoring Lillian Dean, who has voted in every election
    1-8  since 1920; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Born in 1892 in Llano County, Lillian Moore married
   1-10  Charlie Dean in 1915, and the couple owned and operated a ranch;
   1-11  they had two sons, Clifton Nelson Dean and Raymond Lawrence Dean;
   1-12  and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Lillian Dean generously devoted her time and energy
   1-14  to working for the cause of women's suffrage and voted for the
   1-15  first time in 1920, beginning her continuous show of support to
   1-16  the Democratic Party; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A strong and independent woman, Lillian managed the
   1-18  ranch with part-time help after her husband's death; she did most
   1-19  of the ranch work herself, except for greasing the windmills; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, She built the first cabins on Lake Buchanan before
   1-21  the area had electricity, and there is a street named in her honor
   1-22  in Buchanan Dam; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, An exemplary and highly resourceful individual,
    2-1  Lillian Moore Dean has long been beloved and respected by the
    2-2  residents of Llano County, and she deserves recognition for her
    2-3  dedication to helping women across the nation gain the right to
    2-4  vote and for her loyal support of the Democratic Party; now,
    2-5  therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, hereby commend Lillian Dean for her many
    2-8  accomplishments and for voting in every election since 1920; and,
    2-9  be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
   2-11  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
