    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride
    1-3  in recognizing "Big Ed" Wilkes of KRFE Radio Station in
    1-4  Lubbock, Texas; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Born in Blue Mountain, Arkansas, Ed Wilkes moved
    1-6  to Texas at the age of 11 and graduated from Lubbock High School
    1-7  and Texas Tech University with a degree in agriculture; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, He joined KFYO Radio and served as its farm
    1-9  director from 1962 until 1978 and then became owner and talk
   1-10  show host at KRLB Radio; he continued to serve as a radio talk
   1-11  show host from 1984 to 1994 at KSEZ, KJBX, and KKAM/KFMX; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, A highly talented talk show host with an engaging
   1-13  personality, Ed Wilkes purchased KRFE in 1994 and started the
   1-14  "Big Ed in the Morning" show; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, His show quickly became one of the most popular in
   1-16  the state and is enjoyed by countless citizens today who tune in
   1-17  for information and entertainment; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, While famous for his talk show, Ed Wilkes is
   1-19  also known as a leader in the Lubbock community who is active
   1-20  in Oakwood Baptist Church, participates in numerous charitable
   1-21  causes, and is sought after as a speaker and emcee; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, On Thursday, May 4, 1995, an evening of fun,
   1-23  "This is your life, 'Big Ed'" is scheduled at the Knipling Center
    2-1  of Methodist Hospital to benefit Parkinson's Disease patients; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Ed Wilkes gives generously
    2-3  of his time and energy to help others, and he is truly an asset
    2-4  to the City of Lubbock and a treasured citizen of our state; now,
    2-5  therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, hereby commend Ed Wilkes on his talent and
    2-8  his many contributions to his community and extend to him best
    2-9  wishes for the future; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-11  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
