    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, It is indeed fitting and appropriate for the
    1-3  Senate of the State of Texas to pay tribute to Clyde McMahon, Sr.,
    1-4  of Big Spring on the momentous occasion of his retirement from 22
    1-5  years of distinguished service with the Colorado River Municipal
    1-6  Water District; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Throughout his long and dedicated career,
    1-8  Mr. McMahon has served effectively and conscientiously to the
    1-9  benefit of the citizens of West Texas; since 1952, no city served
   1-10  by the Colorado Municipal Water District has ever curtailed or
   1-11  rationed the use of water; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Created on May 31, 1949, the Colorado River
   1-13  Municipal Water District has developed three reservoirs along the
   1-14  Colorado River in West Texas to help ensure a long-term water
   1-15  supply for the region; directors of the district are appointed by
   1-16  the member cities and revenue bonds finance all projects with no
   1-17  local, state, or federal taxes involved in the funding of any
   1-18  district project; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, In the beginning, the three member cities of
   1-20  Big Spring, Odessa, and Snyder had a combined population of 56,000;
   1-21  today, the water district serves a 32-county area that totals
   1-22  450,000 persons; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Mr. McMahon moved to Big Spring in 1953 after
    2-1  working on a highway project at Sterling City and, for nearly 25
    2-2  years, operated McMahon Concrete before turning over the management
    2-3  of the company to his son in 1977; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Through the years, Clyde McMahon has become deeply
    2-5  involved in civic and community affairs, freely offering his time
    2-6  and expertise; he served as president of the school board and was
    2-7  a two-term president of the Young Men's Christian Association; he
    2-8  was head of the United Way, the American Business Club, and the
    2-9  Texas Ready-Mix Association and worked on the Industrial
   2-10  Foundation; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, A former president and director of the Big Spring
   2-12  Area Chamber of Commerce, the esteemed gentleman was named
   2-13  "Man of the Year" of the organization in 1974 in honor of his
   2-14  notable contributions to his community; now, therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-16  74th Legislature, hereby express its deepest admiration to
   2-17  Clyde McMahon, Sr., for his invaluable accomplishments during
   2-18  his years of service with the Colorado River Municipal Water
   2-19  District and extend best wishes to him for a most rewarding
   2-20  retirement; and, be it further
   2-21        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-22  him as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate.
