By: Montford S.R. No. 899 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing John L. Taylor of Big Spring who is retiring after 1-4 31 years of loyal service on the Board of the Colorado River 1-5 Municipal Water District; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Following its creation in 1949, the Colorado River 1-7 Municipal Water District developed three reservoirs along the 1-8 Colorado River in West Texas to help ensure a long-term water 1-9 supply for the region; the district now serves a number of cities 1-10 in a 32-county area that totals 450,000 persons; and 1-11 WHEREAS, John Taylor joined the board of the Colorado River 1-12 Municipal Water District in 1964 and in 1983 became the district's 1-13 fourth president; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A talented and resourceful individual, he has shared 1-15 in the direction of over $40 million worth of district expansion, 1-16 and it was during his tenure as president that the district's 1-17 Lake Ivie Reservoir and pipeline project was completed; the district 1-18 capacity now totals 1.247 million acre-feet of permitted storage on 1-19 the Colorado River; and 1-20 WHEREAS, While serving on the board, Mr. Taylor handled his 1-21 responsibilities with exceptional skill and dedication, and his 1-22 work included chairing the Colorado River Municipal Water District's 1-23 personnel committee and serving on the water rate committee; and 2-1 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman and a leader in his 2-2 community, John Taylor served as president of the Big Spring 2-3 Area Chamber of Commerce and was recognized as its Man of the 2-4 Year; he also served as a city council member and as mayor pro tem 2-5 of the City of Big Spring; and 2-6 WHEREAS, As a member of the Board of the Colorado River 2-7 Municipal Water District, John Taylor has contributed greatly 2-8 to the welfare of the communities in the district's area, and his 2-9 presence on the board will be missed by his colleagues and by the 2-10 citizens of West Texas; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 74th Legislature, hereby commend John Taylor on his many 2-13 years of distinguished service with the Colorado River Municipal 2-14 Water District and extend to him best wishes for the retirement 2-15 years ahead; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him 2-17 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 President of the Senate 2-20 I hereby certify that the above 2-21 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-22 on May 3, 1995. 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Secretary of the Senate 2-25 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate
