No. 912 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to join 1-3 the Fort Worth Women's Hall of Fame in saluting its honorees for 1-4 the 1996 Outstanding Women of Fort Worth; and 1-5 WHEREAS, It is fitting that these notable women are being 1-6 acknowledged during National Women's History Month; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Women have made great strides over the course of 1-8 this century and have overcome many long-standing cultural 1-9 limitations in the professional world and in the fields of 1-10 education and politics; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The honorees were all selected because of their 1-12 outstanding contributions to the welfare and progress of their 1-13 community, city, state, and nation; and 1-14 WHEREAS, An awards program and reception were held on 1-15 March 22, 1995, during which each of the honorees was officially 1-16 recognized; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The winner of the Women in the Family Award is 1-18 Juanita Martinez whose house on the south side serves as home, 1-19 safe haven, and hallowed ground for her own five children and nine 1-20 foster children and literally hundreds of others whom she has fed 1-21 and housed over the years; her home is especially open to abused 1-22 children, gang members, and "throwaway" kids; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Paying homage to these eminent women will help 2-1 build an awareness and a greater appreciation of the many 2-2 accomplishments of women and of the contributions they have made 2-3 to our society through their leadership and dedication; now, 2-4 therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-6 74th Legislature, hereby congratulate Juanita Martinez on being 2-7 named one of the 1996 Outstanding Women of Fort Worth; and, be 2-8 it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-10 Juanita Martinez as an expression of the highest esteem of the 2-11 Texas Senate. 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 President of the Senate 2-14 I hereby certify that the above 2-15 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-16 on May 4, 1995. 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Secretary of the Senate 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Member, Texas Senate
