No. 920 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to join 1-3 the Fort Worth Women's Hall of Fame in saluting its honorees for 1-4 the 1996 Outstanding Women of Fort Worth; and 1-5 WHEREAS, It is fitting that these notable women are being 1-6 acknowledged during National Women's History Month; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Women have made great strides over the course of 1-8 this century and have overcome many long-standing cultural 1-9 limitations in the professional world and in the fields of 1-10 education and politics; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The honorees were all selected because of their 1-12 outstanding contributions to the welfare and progress of their 1-13 community, city, state, and nation; and 1-14 WHEREAS, An awards program and reception were held on 1-15 March 22, 1995, during which each of the honorees was officially 1-16 recognized; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The winner of the Commissioners' Civic Leadership 1-18 Award is Viola Pitts, longtime civic and political leader and 1-19 the unofficial mayor of Como; this indomitable woman is a 1995 1-20 delegate to the White House Conference on Aging, where she will 1-21 help influence the long-term policy for the nation with regard 1-22 to elderly Americans and how they will be treated in our society; 1-23 and 2-1 WHEREAS, Paying homage to these eminent women will help 2-2 build an awareness and a greater appreciation of the many 2-3 accomplishments of women and of the contributions they have 2-4 made to our society through their leadership and dedication; 2-5 now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 74th Legislature, hereby congratulate Viola Pitts on being named 2-8 one of the 1996 Outstanding Women of Fort Worth; and, be it 2-9 further 2-10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-11 Viola Pitts as an expression of the highest esteem of the 2-12 Texas Senate. 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 President of the Senate 2-15 I hereby certify that the above 2-16 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-17 on May 4, 1995. 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Secretary of the Senate 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Member, Texas Senate
