No. 931 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Every year for nearly 20 years, the City of Fort Worth 1-3 has set aside three days to remember and recognize the city's 1-4 heritage; located on the old Chisholm Trail, Fort Worth became a 1-5 major shipping and supply depot for cattlemen after the Civil War 1-6 when great herds of longhorns made their way from the grasslands 1-7 of South Texas to the railhead in Abilene, Kansas; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The Chisholm Trail Round-Up is held in the historic 1-9 Stockyards District as a fitting tribute to the men and women who 1-10 together forged a new way of life on the American frontier; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In its 19th year, the Chisholm Trail Round-Up is one 1-12 of the nation's largest festivals and benefits western heritage 1-13 organizations by helping to keep alive the knowledge of the way 1-14 our ancestors lived; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Today the City of Fort Worth is a modern American 1-16 city with a wide range of industries but it still reflects its 1-17 beginnings in the restored Stockyards District, Sundance Square, 1-18 the downtown renovation project, the fabulous collections of western 1-19 art in its museums, and the authentic pioneer homes in the Log Cabin 1-20 Village, to name but a few; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The festival is a combination of fun, food, and 1-22 friendly competition which draws thousands of spectators who are 1-23 drawn by the spirit of the Old West as a time to remember an era 2-1 that is part of who we are as a nation; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-3 74th Legislature, hereby commend the 1995 Chisholm Trail Round-Up 2-4 organization for its contributions to the preservation of our western 2-5 heritage; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 2-7 expression of the appreciation of the Texas Senate with all best 2-8 wishes for a most rewarding celebration. 2-9 ______________________________________ 2-10 President of the Senate 2-11 I hereby certify that the above 2-12 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-13 on May 5, 1995. 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 Secretary of the Senate 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 Member, Texas Senate
