No. 932 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-3 express its appreciation to Arthur Gillum for his many years 1-4 of devoted service to the Dallas Independent School District; and 1-5 WHEREAS, He was born on November 19, 1934, in Ennis, Texas, 1-6 and he graduated from G. W. Carver High School in Ennis; and 1-7 WHEREAS, He served his country honorably in the United States 1-8 Army during the Korean War; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Gillum earned his undergraduate degree 1-10 in education and his master's degree in administration from 1-11 Prairie View A&M University; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Arthur Gillum married Alice Walker on May 23, 1976; 1-13 they provided a nurturing environment for their two girls, 1-14 Michell Gillum and Cheryl Gillum Freeman; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Through his achievements and abilities, Mr. Gillum 1-16 has contributed greatly to the educational system of Dallas and 1-17 the State of Texas; and 1-18 WHEREAS, His broad experience and versatility have proved 1-19 invaluable in his position as Principal of John B. Hood Middle 1-20 School; he has carried out his duties with integrity and fairness 1-21 while earning the admiration and respect of his colleagues; and 1-22 WHEREAS, An exemplary role model, he guided his students 1-23 with firmness, fairness, and love; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-2 74th Legislature, hereby commend Arthur Gillum for his career 2-3 of service and the positive impact he has had on the lives of 2-4 thousands of young people; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-6 Mr. Gillum as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-7 ______________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the above 2-10 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-11 on May 5, 1995. 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
