By: Brown S.R. No. 933 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 William C. Pool 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-6 of San Marcos in mourning the loss of William C. Pool who died 1-7 April 30, 1995, at the age of 76; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born on February 2, 1919, in Clifton, Texas, he 1-9 earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from 1-10 The University of Texas at Austin; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A deeply patriotic man, he served his country 1-12 honorably in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot; 1-13 he saw action again during the Korean War as a pilot; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Except for being a graduate instructor at the 1-15 university, Professor Emeritus Pool spent his entire academic 1-16 career at Southwest Texas State University, where he joined the 1-17 faculty in 1947; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Greatly revered by his students, he was a favorite 1-19 history professor and was the first faculty member to be presented 1-20 with the Teaching Excellence Award; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Known as an enthusiastic baseball fan, Professor 1-22 Pool was an avid supporter of baseball, loved to play baseball, and 1-23 organized club teams on campus long before baseball was a National 2-1 Collegiate Athletic Association-sanctioned sport; and 2-2 WHEREAS, He was the first paid baseball coach at 2-3 Southwest Texas State, balancing his academic responsibilities 2-4 with his athletic duties; he will be remembered as a fervent fan 2-5 who continued to follow the progress of his team even after his 2-6 retirement in 1986; and 2-7 WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and compassion, he 2-8 gave unselfishly of his time to others; and 2-9 WHEREAS, A respected and beloved member of his community, 2-10 Professor Pool will be remembered for his devotion to his family, 2-11 Southwest Texas State University, his students, and his favorite 2-12 sport; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-15 members of his bereaved family; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-17 for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-18 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do 2-19 so in memory of William C.
