No. 936 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride 1-3 in recognizing the grandparents of the South East Texas Foster 1-4 Grandparent Program for their outstanding contributions to 1-5 their communities; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A volunteer program based on the nurturing 1-7 relationship between a foster grandparent and a child, the 1-8 South East Texas Foster Grandparent Program addresses the 1-9 multifarious needs of children in difficult and stressful 1-10 situations; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The "grandmas" and "grandpas" volunteer at local 1-12 school districts, mental health care facilities, juvenile 1-13 probation facilities, and day care centers; they care for children 1-14 who suffer from such problems as criminal behavior, substance 1-15 abuse, physical and emotional abuse, and behavioral difficulties; 1-16 and 1-17 WHEREAS, Through hard work and devotion, the grandparents 1-18 provide immeasurable benefits to these troubled and needy children, 1-19 and currently the program has 50 grandparents who are working to 1-20 help shape the future of approximately 70 children; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The South East Texas Foster Grandparent Program has 1-22 been recognized by the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission as a 1-23 model project in the State of Texas and has received national 2-1 recognition in an official publication of the American Correctional 2-2 Association; and 2-3 WHEREAS, The services provided by the grandparents are vital 2-4 to the physical, spiritual, and emotional welfare of the children 2-5 of the Southeast Texas area, and a special meeting is being held 2-6 May 10, 1995, in Beaumont, providing an opportunity for the 2-7 community, press, and public officials to express appreciation 2-8 for their exceptional work; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 74th Legislature, hereby commend the grandparents of the 2-11 South East Texas Foster Grandparent Program for their dedication 2-12 and their many contributions to the children of Texas; and, be it 2-13 further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-15 them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the above 2-19 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-20 on May 5, 1995. 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
