No. 988 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Marion Robinson Uehlinger 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-6 of Nueces County in mourning the loss of respected former county 1-7 clerk Marion Robinson Uehlinger who died May 2, 1995; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A member of an early pioneer family, Marion was born 1-9 September 12, 1904, in Duval County; one of six students to graduate 1-10 from Incarnate Word Academy in 1921, Marion Robinson was honored in 1-11 1993 as the school's oldest living graduate; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Her marriage to Cecil Uehlinger was a strong and 1-13 lasting one, and together they created a happy home for their six 1-14 children; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Following her husband's death in 1948, she assumed 1-16 a temporary, 30-day position with the county clerk's office but 1-17 remained in that office for more than 42 years, including 16 years 1-18 as county clerk, until her retirement in 1990; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Elected Nueces County Clerk in 1974, Mrs. Uehlinger 1-20 soon became a beloved figure in courthouse circles; her spunk, wit, 1-21 and outspokenness earned her a wide circle of friends and admirers; 1-22 and 1-23 WHEREAS, A woman of many and varied interests, Mrs. Uehlinger 2-1 was active in the Business and Professional Women's Society, the 2-2 Democratic Party, and the Nueces County Extension Service; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Proud of her Irish ancestry, Mrs. Uehlinger donated 2-4 her time and energies to the Irish Cultural House and the Ancient 2-5 Order of Hibernians of America; and 2-6 WHEREAS, A devout Catholic, she was a member of the founding 2-7 families of Saint Theresa Catholic Church and was currently a 2-8 parishioner of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church; and 2-9 WHEREAS, A warm, loving, and gracious woman, Marion Uehlinger 2-10 will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her and 2-11 treasured her companionship; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-13 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members 2-14 of her family: her son, August Uehlinger, Sr.; her daughters, 2-15 Marion Uehlinger Pace, Julia Johns, and Eleanor Danner; her sister, 2-16 Loretta Vatzlavick; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 2-17 and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-19 for the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy 2-20 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, 2-21 it do so in memory of Marion Robinson Uehlinger. 2-22 Truan 2-23 Armbrister Henderson Ratliff 2-24 Barrientos Leedom Rosson 2-25 Bivins Lucio Shapiro 3-1 Brown Luna Sibley 3-2 Cain Madla Sims 3-3 Ellis Moncrief Turner 3-4 Gallegos Montford Wentworth 3-5 Galloway Nelson West 3-6 Harris Nixon Whitmire 3-7 Haywood Patterson Zaffirini 3-8 Bullock, President of the Senate 3-9 ______________________________________ 3-10 President of the Senate 3-11 I hereby certify that the above 3-12 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-13 on May 8, 1995, by a rising vote. 3-14 ______________________________________ 3-15 Secretary of the Senate 3-16 ______________________________________ 3-17 Dean of the Senate
