    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize the DeSoto West Junior High School Band of DeSoto, Texas,
    1-4  on the auspicious occasion of being named recipient of the noted
    1-5  Sudler Cup Award by the John Philip Sousa Foundation; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Sudler Cup is awarded only to the very
    1-7  finest junior high school or intermediate school concert bands
    1-8  and is intended to identify, recognize, and honor bands that have
    1-9  demonstrated particularly high standards of excellence in concert
   1-10  activities over a period of years; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The DeSoto West Junior High School Band was one of
   1-12  only two school bands from the United States and Canada elected
   1-13  for this international honor; only 17 junior high or middle school
   1-14  bands have been selected for the Sudler Cup during the nine years
   1-15  the Sudler Cup award project has been in operation; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, This award is certainly an indication of the fine
   1-17  music program being offered in the DeSoto West Junior High School;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The talented director of this fine group of student
   1-20  musicians is Mr. Benny Davis; in winning this award, the band and
   1-21  its members have brought honor to their school, their community,
   1-22  and their state; now, therefore, be it
   1-23        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-1  74th Legislature, hereby congratulate the members of the DeSoto West
    2-2  Junior High School Band and their director, Mr. Benny Davis, for
    2-3  being awarded the prestigious Sudler Cup; and, be it further
    2-4        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
    2-5  band as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate.
