No. 1020 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The occasion of a 90th birthday is an exceptionally 1-3 splendid one and calls for great celebration, and so it was for 1-4 Arrie Dell Rodgers Walker when she was the guest of honor on her 1-5 special day, May 14, 1995; and 1-6 WHEREAS, This gracious lady, who is well known for her 1-7 personal integrity, kindness, and devotion to her family, has made 1-8 it possible for many others to succeed and bring honor to this great 1-9 state; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Born in rural Shelby County, Texas, near the town 1-11 of Center, Arrie Walker traces her lineage back to Arthur Middleton, 1-12 one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and his 1-13 family; she worked hard to raise her family of four boys and a 1-14 girl through the Great Depression; some of the boys served in the 1-15 United States Navy; her children attended college and had varied 1-16 careers in education, with the Texas Water Development Board, and 1-17 in senior positions with a multi-national oil company; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Over many years, through good times and 1-19 bad, Arrie Walker has been determined that her children, her 1-20 grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren work hard, be honest, 1-21 and do their best; she has seen her grandchildren prosper and has 1-22 held her great-grandchildren in her arms with the same loving 1-23 kindness she has shown all her family members; and 2-1 WHEREAS, She has been privileged to witness the coming of 2-2 age of Texas from a rural, agricultural state to one that is a 2-3 modern, industrial giant; from the days of the horse and buggy 2-4 to the arrival of automobiles, airplanes, and space travel; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Walker is truly deserving of the long and happy 2-6 life with which she has been blessed, and the Texas Senate is proud 2-7 to commend her for her notable accomplishments; now, therefore, be 2-8 it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 74th Legislature, hereby recognize Arrie Dell Rodgers Walker as 2-11 a treasured citizen of her town and state, wishing her continued 2-12 health and happiness in the days to come; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be presented to her 2-14 as an expression of the warmest regards of the Texas Senate on her 2-15 90th birthday. 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the above 2-19 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-20 on May 10, 1995. 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
