No. 1038 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing the Houston International Sports Committee, a nonprofit 1-4 organization created with the hope of attracting future Olympic and 1-5 Pan-American Games to the City of Houston; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The hosting of the Olympic and Pan-American Games 1-7 in Houston would bring welcome economic benefits, as well as tourism 1-8 and publicity to the State of Texas; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The committee members plan to prepare a bid for 1-10 the games that will not require the use of taxpayer money; plans 1-11 are to construct new facilities and refurbish old facilities in a 1-12 manner similar to that of Los Angeles in 1984; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Houston would boost its stature as an international 1-14 city by hosting the games and as a result international trade would 1-15 be encouraged and promoted within the state; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Many of Houston's leading citizens and residents 1-17 throughout Harris County have given the committee their enthusiastic 1-18 support and are grateful to the members of the committee for their 1-19 hard work and careful planning; now, therefore, be it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-21 74th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the members of 1-22 the Houston International Sports Committee for their efforts 1-23 and accomplishments and extend to them best wishes for success 2-1 in their bid to host the Olympic and Pan-American Games; and, 2-2 be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-4 committee as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-5 ______________________________________ 2-6 President of the Senate 2-7 I hereby certify that the above 2-8 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-9 on May 12, 1995. 2-10 ______________________________________ 2-11 Secretary of the Senate 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 Member, Texas Senate
