No. 1046 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Dr. William Joseph Banks 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the family, 1-6 friends, colleagues, and students of Dr. William Joseph Banks of 1-7 College Station in mourning the passing of this distinguished 1-8 scholar who died on April 16, 1995; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, scientist, and 1-10 academician, Dr. Banks was born in New York City and received 1-11 his bachelor of science degree at California Polytechnic 1-12 University, where he was selected as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1-13 1977; he received his master's degree, doctoral degree, and Doctor 1-14 of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Dr. Banks began his teaching career as an 1-16 assistant professor of zoology at California State University 1-17 in 1967; his career then led him to the Department of Veterinary 1-18 Medicine of the University of Saskatchewan, the College of 1-19 Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State 1-20 University, and, in 1985, to his appointment as professor and 1-21 head of the department of veterinary anatomy and fine structure 1-22 in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State 1-23 University, where, in 1989, he became Assistant Dean for 2-1 Academic Programs and the following year became director of 2-2 the Center for Faculty Development; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Four years ago, Dr. Banks joined the faculty of 2-4 Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University as Associate Dean for 2-5 Academic Programs, and among his duties, he supervised admissions, 2-6 academic standards, curriculum, and the undergraduate program in 2-7 biomedical science and served as interim dean of the College of 2-8 Veterinary Medicine; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Noted internationally as an authority on teaching 2-10 and learning styles, he found time in his demanding schedule to 2-11 continue to publish, and composed, among his various works, three 2-12 books on anatomy and histology; and 2-13 WHEREAS, During his years at Texas A&M this highly 2-14 accomplished and warm-hearted scholar earned the respect and 2-15 admiration of all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed; 2-16 now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-18 74th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the 2-19 members of his family: his wife, Ginger Banks; and his two 2-20 daughters, Victoria Banks and Kristin Banks; and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-22 the members of his family as an expression of profound sympathy 2-23 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, 2-24 it do so in memory of Dr. William Joseph Banks. 2-25 ______________________________________ 3-1 President of the Senate 3-2 I hereby certify that the above 3-3 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-4 on May 12, 1995, by a rising vote. 3-5 ______________________________________ 3-6 Secretary of the Senate 3-7 ______________________________________ 3-8 Member, Texas Senate
