No. 1048 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-3 recognize Connie Stout for her notable contributions to the 1-4 educational system of Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Connie is the director of the Texas Education 1-6 Network which targets educators and students from kindergarten 1-7 to the 12th grade; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Funded by the Central Education Agency, the Texas 1-9 Education Network supplies classes with indispensible resources 1-10 by putting public school teachers and their students on-line for 1-11 a $5 annual fee; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The Texas Education Network provides students 1-13 access to the Library of Congress, the National Archives, and 1-14 several dictionaries; it also plugs them into a listing of every 1-15 Texas school district, public school, teacher, and administrator; 1-16 and 1-17 WHEREAS, The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the 1-18 McDonald Observatory's Star Date program, the National Aeronautics 1-19 and Space Administration, the White House, members of the 1-20 Texas Legislature, census tables, and state agencies' databases 1-21 are all readily available to public schools through the network; 1-22 and 1-23 WHEREAS, The Texas Education Network addresses teacher 2-1 isolation in the classroom by providing toll-free telephone numbers 2-2 to its users in remote areas; it also addresses the school-finance 2-3 conundrum by providing a far more economical solution of giving 2-4 poorer districts equal access to information through computers 2-5 rather than redistributing tax money; and 2-6 WHEREAS, In the search to provide all the schoolchildren of 2-7 Texas with an excellent education, the Texas Education Network has 2-8 taken a giant step toward making invaluable information accessible 2-9 to every classroom throughout the state for a nominal fee, thus 2-10 freeing money for other educational needs; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 74th Legislature, hereby commend Connie Stout on behalf of the 2-13 schoolchildren of Texas for her work as head of the Texas Education 2-14 Network and extend best wishes to her for continued success in the 2-15 future; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-17 as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 President of the Senate 2-20 I hereby certify that the above 2-21 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-22 on May 12, 1995. 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Secretary of the Senate 2-25 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate
