No. 1070 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is especially pleased to join the 1-3 citizens of Nacogdoches in paying tribute to Lorene Cariker Dorsey 1-4 on the grand occasion of her 100th birthday; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This gracious lady is well known for her generous 1-6 nature, her cheerfulness, and her love for people; she has dedicated 1-7 her life to the service of others; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born in Clayton, Texas, on May 29, 1895, to 1-9 Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Cariker, Lorene was the oldest of four children; 1-10 she moved with her family at an early age to Cushing, Texas, where 1-11 she attended grade school; continuing her education at Southwest 1-12 Texas Normal School in San Marcos, she earned her teaching 1-13 certificate and began her teaching career at Cairo, Texas; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Lorene Cariker and James B. Dorsey were married in 1-15 1915, and she became a loving wife and devoted mother to their three 1-16 children, Fred, James, and Mary Frances; the couple spent most of 1-17 their married life in Nacogdoches where Lorene became very active 1-18 in community affairs and her church; she is the proud grandmother 1-19 of eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A highly respected member of her community for many 1-21 years, Mrs. Dorsey is a member of First Baptist Church where she 1-22 taught the women's Sunday school class for 35 years; she is also 1-23 a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial 2-1 Dames; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Lorene Dorsey has been and continues to be a 2-3 magnificent inspiration and spiritual force in the lives of all 2-4 those who have had the privilege of knowing this remarkable 2-5 individual; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 74th Legislature, hereby recognize Lorene Cariker Dorsey as a 2-8 treasured citizen of her town and state with best wishes for 2-9 continued health and happiness; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-11 this distinguished Texan as a memento of this significant milestone 2-12 in her life. 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 President of the Senate 2-15 I hereby certify that the above 2-16 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-17 on May 15, 1995. 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Secretary of the Senate 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Member, Texas Senate
