    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                          Clifford Pennington
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas noted with sadness
    1-6  the passing of Clifford Pennington, who died April 23, 1995, at the
    1-7  age of 74; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Mr. Pennington was born November 24, 1919, in
    1-9  Grapeland, Texas, and resided in Crockett for the past 40 years;
   1-10  after his high school graduation in 1937, he went into farming and
   1-11  ranching; when the war broke out, he joined the Navy Air Corps in
   1-12  1942 and served aboard six aircraft carriers; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Lieutenant Pennington was united in marriage with
   1-14  Esta Faye Morrow in 1944; in 1946, the couple returned to Crockett,
   1-15  where Mr. Pennington joined Glover Morrow in the grocery business;
   1-16  his interest in merchandising continued, and during the next few
   1-17  years, he was employed with several furniture stores in various
   1-18  locations; his business experience served him well when he became
   1-19  Vice-President of the Davy Crockett Federal Savings and Loan; after
   1-20  his retirement in 1975, he continued to serve on the board of
   1-21  directors while engaging in the region's chief economic mainstay,
   1-22  the timber business; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. Pennington shared
    2-1  a joyous home life with his wife and children; Mr. Pennington
    2-2  worked with the Boy Scouts, and his family was active in the
    2-3  Grapeland Baptist Church; Mr. Pennington worked in other areas of
    2-4  community service through the Lions Club and Rotary Club, and he
    2-5  was a charter member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Clifford Pennington was an exemplary man whose
    2-7  fellowship, leadership, and good company will be sorely missed;
    2-8  now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to his family:
   2-11  his wife, Esta Faye Pennington; his daughter and son-in-law,
   2-12  Paula Emmert and Ron Emmert; his son and daughter-in-law,
   2-13  Ric Pennington and Janet Pennington; and his grandchildren,
   2-14  Stacy Johnson and Derek Johnson, Haley Emmert, Karon Emmert,
   2-15  Leslie Wars and Jared Wars, David Hutchison, Trae Pennington,
   2-16  and Daniel Pennington; and his great-great-grandchild, Erick Wars;
   2-17  and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-19  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
   2-20  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
   2-21  do so in memory of Clifford Pennington.
