    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                     First Lieutenant Paul Bowers
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
    1-6  of San Antonio in mourning the untimely death of First Lieutenant
    1-7  Paul Bowers; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Paul Bowers was born October 24, 1967, in
    1-9  Odessa, Texas, to Joseph M. and Joan G. Bowers; his mother died
   1-10  when he was 10 years old; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, He graduated from Richland Hills High School where
   1-12  he was a member of the National Honor Society and Young Life and
   1-13  played junior varsity basketball; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, He enrolled at Texas A&M University in 1986, joined
   1-15  the Corps of Cadets, and was a member of Squadron One of the Air
   1-16  Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps Wing; he was voted "Most
   1-17  Athletic" and was a member of the prestigious Texas A&M Freshman
   1-18  Drill Team; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, An outstanding student and a leader in his
   1-20  class, Paul became company commander in his senior year and was
   1-21  the recipient of the Texas A&M University Distinguished Student
   1-22  award; he was accepted into the United States Air Force pilot
   1-23  training program, and after graduation from Texas A&M University,
    2-1  he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States
    2-2  Air Force in 1991; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Paul Bowers was dedicated to his work as a pilot and
    2-4  was fourth in his pilot training class at Vance Air Force Base; he
    2-5  was later stationed at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio where
    2-6  he received the 1995 First Quarter Outstanding Pilot award on
    2-7  April 14, 1995; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, First Lieutenant Paul Bowers was a man of many talents
    2-9  and interests; he excelled at water sports and enjoyed his work on
   2-10  an old home he was remodeling; he was pursuing a master's degree in
   2-11  environmental science at The University of Texas at San Antonio at
   2-12  the time of his death; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished young man of courage
   2-14  and tenacity, Paul Bowers gave willingly of his time to others, and
   2-15  his warmth and engaging personality will not be forgotten by those
   2-16  who knew him; and
   2-17        WHEREAS, Paul Bowers lived his life to the fullest, and
   2-18  he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
   2-19  family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-20        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-21  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-22  bereaved family of First Lieutenant Paul Bowers:  his parents,
   2-23  Joe and Julie Bowers; his sister, Lisa Buchanan; his stepbrother,
   2-24  Brad Williams; and his grandmother, Nita Goss; and, be it further
   2-25        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
    3-1  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
    3-2  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
    3-3  in memory of Paul Bowers.
