    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  recognizing Robert Blair on his recent selection to the All-USA
    1-4  Two-Year College Academic First Team; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Students are chosen for the award based on their
    1-6  leadership, community service, extracurricular activities, and
    1-7  work experience; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Robert Blair is one of 20 students in the country
    1-9  selected from over 900 nominations for this prestigious honor;
   1-10  the award is sponsored by USA TODAY and Phi Theta Kappa, the
   1-11  international honor society for two-year colleges; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Robert Blair is a Del Mar College student who
   1-13  returned to college at the age of 50 after leading a destitute
   1-14  life on the streets; he received assistance from the Del Mar
   1-15  College Financial Aid Office and ended his first semester on the
   1-16  Dean's List with a 4.0 grade point average; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Robert joined Phi Theta Kappa and embraced the
   1-18  organization's hallmarks of scholarship, leadership, fellowship,
   1-19  and service; he now serves as chapter president and historian,
   1-20  has founded a permanent Phi Theta Kappa scholarship fund, and has
   1-21  created the College Bound Buddy Program in which Phi Theta Kappa
   1-22  members adopt marginal students in high school; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, A radio/television major, Robert Blair has produced
    2-1  and directed a six-week television lecture series entitled "The
    2-2  Phi Theta Kappa Honors Hour"; he also directs Del Mar College's
    2-3  television magazine show, "P.M. Corpus Christi"; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, A remarkable individual with exceptional
    2-5  communication skills, Mr. Blair serves as regional vice-president
    2-6  of Phi Theta Kappa and has lectured across the country, helping
    2-7  the society's existing chapters and encouraging new initiates;
    2-8  he plans to earn his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University
    2-9  at Corpus Christi and to continue his studies in Austin at
   2-10  The University of Texas; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Recently Mr. Blair was inducted into the Del Mar
   2-12  College Hall of Fame, an honor given to students for their
   2-13  dedication to the betterment of the college; and
   2-14        WHEREAS, A man of uncommon talent and tenacity, Bob Blair is
   2-15  committed to helping his fellow citizens to excel, and he generously
   2-16  shares his time, energy, insight, and life experiences with others,
   2-17  with his colleagues, and with people across the country; now,
   2-18  therefore, be it
   2-19        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-20  74th Legislature, hereby commend Robert Blair for his outstanding
   2-21  achievements and extend to him congratulations on his selection to
   2-22  the All-USA Two-Year College Academic First Team; and, be it further
   2-23        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-24  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
