By: Turner S.R. No. 1121 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Philip W. Strength 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the friends 1-6 and family of Philip W. Strength in mourning this native son who 1-7 died April 22, 1995, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 45; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Mr. Strength was born July 21, 1949, in Beaumont, 1-9 but lived most of his life in the Lovelady area, where he made 1-10 invaluable contributions to the community; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A man of strong Christian faith, he was a Sunday 1-12 School teacher and a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Lovelady; 1-13 in addition, he found time to serve on the board of trustees of the 1-14 school district, and he gladly risked himself alongside his fellow 1-15 volunteers of the Lovelady Fire Department; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A man of ability and unquestioned integrity, 1-17 Mr. Strength proudly served six years in the United States Navy; 1-18 upon leaving the service, he continued to work for the government 1-19 as a window clerk in the United States Postal Service, where his 1-20 kindness, assistance, and amiable character put him constantly in 1-21 touch with other community members; and 1-22 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, he was a great source 1-23 of fortitude, nurturance, and respect for his wife and children; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Philip W. Strength provided a positive and inspiring 2-2 influence in the lives of countless people, and such a man will be 2-3 greatly missed; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 74th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the members 2-6 of his family: his wife, Jaquita Strength; his sons, Jeremy Strength 2-7 and Zachary Strength; his mother and stepfather, Ann Antill and 2-8 Alan Antill; his brother and sister-in-law, John Strength and 2-9 Fran Strength; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Amanda Stewart 2-10 and Scot Stewart and Janie Langford and Walter Langford; and, be it 2-11 further 2-12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-13 for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-14 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it 2-15 do so in memory of Philip W.
