1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 In Memory

1-4 Lee Bivins II
1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
1-6 of Amarillo in mourning the untimely loss of Lee "Levi" Bivins II,
1-7 who died October 19, 1994, at the age of 48; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Born in 1946 in Amarillo, Levi Bivins was the son of
1-9 the late Lee T. Bivins and the great-grandson of Panhandle pioneer
1-10 Lee Bivins; and
1-11 WHEREAS, He attended Saint Stephen's Preparatory School
1-12 in Austin and graduated from Washington and Lee University with a
1-13 bachelor's degree in political science; he also attended graduate
1-14 school in accounting at The University of Texas; and
1-15 WHEREAS, A man of many talents and interests, Mr. Bivins
1-16 was dedicated to his work in investments and in ranching; he
1-17 served for 10 years as an administrative assistant to former
1-18 United States Representative Jack Hightower; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Highly respected in the community for his many
1-20 accomplishments, Levi Bivins was an exemplary and distinguished
1-21 gentleman who was beloved by many for his warmth, his engaging
1-22 personality, and his generosity; and
1-23 WHEREAS, A humanitarian and a well-known civic leader,
2-1 Mr. Bivins was an active supporter of the Human Rights Campaign
2-2 Fund, the Whitman Walker Clinic, the AIDS Action Council, and the
2-3 Don Harrington Discovery Center; and
2-4 WHEREAS, Named by the Amarillo Jaycees as one of six
2-5 Outstanding Young Men in 1975, he was also a longtime supporter
2-6 of Washington and Lee University, KACV-TV, and the National Gallery
2-7 of the Arts; and
2-8 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, he was a member of Saint Andrew's
2-9 Episcopal Church; and
2-10 WHEREAS, An individual of integrity, courage, strength, and
2-11 compassion, Levi Bivins lived his life to the fullest and leaves
2-12 behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
2-13 many friends; now, therefore, be it
2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-15 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
2-16 family of Lee Bivins II: his mother, Mrs. Lee T. Bivins; and his
2-17 brothers, State Senator Teel Bivins, Tom Bivins, and Mark Bivins;
2-18 and, be it further
2-19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-20 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-21 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-22 in memory of Lee Bivins II.
