    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  recognizing Edward P. Perez on the auspicious occasion of his
    1-4  graduation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a
    1-5  doctorate degree in chemical engineering and for his research and
    1-6  invention of a synthetic hydrogel for the cornea; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, A graduate of Crockett High School in Austin, Texas,
    1-8  Edward Perez earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical
    1-9  engineering as a High Honor Graduate from The University of Texas
   1-10  at Austin in 1987; he has attended Harvard Medical School and was
   1-11  admitted to the joint medical/doctoral degree program in 1989; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Edward Perez is receiving his doctorate degree in
   1-13  June of 1995 after completing his thesis on "Bilayer Composite
   1-14  Hydrogels for Corneal Epithelial Cell Growth"; the thesis entails
   1-15  the synthesis and characterization of a synthetic hydrogel adhered
   1-16  onto a thin substrate of corneal stroma; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A highly gifted individual, Edward Perez has worked
   1-18  at Medchem Products, Incorporated, where he developed an in-vitro
   1-19  hemostasis assay, based on viscometry, to determine the
   1-20  effectiveness of different commercial preparations of hemostasis
   1-21  adjuvants; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, An exemplary young man and a dedicated scholar,
   1-23  Edward Perez pursues his goals with tenacity and will undoubtedly
    2-1  have a highly successful career in academic medicine; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Edward Perez's remarkable accomplishments are
    2-3  evidence of his hard work and outstanding abilities, and he is a
    2-4  source of much pride to his family, his colleagues, and his
    2-5  community; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, hereby commend Edward Perez on his exceptional
    2-8  achievements and extend to him congratulations on earning his
    2-9  doctorate degree with best wishes for the years ahead; and, be it
   2-10  further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-12  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
