No. 1147 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Since 1956, when the sister city concept and other 1-3 international cooperation programs were initiated as a means to 1-4 peace and communication between nations, the presidents of the 1-5 United States of America have continued to extend their support 1-6 to such goals and methods that are intended to establish foreign 1-7 friendships; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Such an exchange of ideas, in the spirit of 1-9 fellowship, offers the broadening of perspective needed in 1-10 today's smaller and smaller world, where we are all becoming 1-11 close neighbors; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The people of both the Republic of Ghana and the 1-13 State of Texas have struggled to achieve liberty, industry, and 1-14 commerce; both contain a number of groups which provide much 1-15 cultural diversity, are highly ranked agricultural producers, have 1-16 ocean margins and access to world-wide shipping, and are vitally 1-17 interested in developing the kind of diversified economies which 1-18 provide stabilization in rapidly changing world markets; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Friendship, education, cultural exchange, and 1-20 commerce are of great benefit to both the Republic of Ghana and 1-21 to the State of Texas and provide a happy medium of mutual interest; 1-22 now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 74th Legislature, hereby reaffirm ties of friendship with the 2-2 Republic of Ghana; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-4 government of the Republic of Ghana as an expression of our sincere 2-5 desire to join hands across the ocean and bring the peoples of our 2-6 two societies closer together in a harmonious relationship of 2-7 trans-Atlantic good will. 2-8 ______________________________________ 2-9 President of the Senate 2-10 I hereby certify that the above 2-11 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-12 on May 23, 1995. 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Secretary of the Senate 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Member, Texas Senate
