    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Sarah Cartwright Edwards is retiring from the Tyler
    1-3  Independent School District at the close of the school year ending
    1-4  an outstanding career in education spanning 43 years; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The daughter of Jessie J. and Peace B. Cartwright,
    1-6  Sarah was educated in the Tyler public schools; she was given a
    1-7  scholarship to attend college by her church, True Vine Baptist
    1-8  Church, and graduated magna cum laude; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Sarah began her
   1-10  teaching career and taught in Shamrock Independent School District
   1-11  and Brownsboro Independent School District, as well as the Tyler
   1-12  Independent School District; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, She freely gave of her time and abilities to
   1-14  professional organizations including the National Education
   1-15  Association, Texas State Teachers Association, and Phi Delta
   1-16  Kappa; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Active in her community throughout her teaching
   1-18  career, Sarah Edwards is a member of La Rosetta Cultural Club,
   1-19  Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, and National Federated Women's Club, and
   1-20  she is a sponsor of the Girls Club; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Sarah has earned the admiration and appreciation of
   1-22  the members of her community for her countless contributions; she
   1-23  was voted Woman of the Year in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and one of
    2-1  the outstanding presidents in the Oliva Williams district; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, A devoted member of True Vine Baptist Church, Sarah
    2-3  serves the congregation as a deacon, member of the Chancellor Choir,
    2-4  and sponsor of the youth choir; now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  74th Legislature, hereby commend Sarah Edwards for her contributions
    2-7  to the schoolchildren of Texas and extend best wishes to her for a
    2-8  most rewarding retirement; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
   2-10  as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
