No. 1185 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride 1-3 in recognizing the officers in the San Antonio Police Department 1-4 who were responsible for the arrest of six teenagers involved in 1-5 a brutal attack and attempted robbery on February 21, 1995, on 1-6 Military Drive; and 1-7 WHEREAS, At four o'clock in the afternoon on February 21, 1-8 Ruth Mahl was washing her car at a car wash when six teenagers 1-9 attacked her; one of the group choked and beat her, held a gun 1-10 to her head, and tried to get the keys to her car; and 1-11 WHEREAS, After the victim screamed, the youths ran off; a 1-12 witness, however, called the San Antonio Police Department; within 1-13 minutes, the six teenagers, all of whom had prior records, were 1-14 arrested; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The apprehension of these dangerous youths 1-16 was due to the swift action of the following officers of the 1-17 West Side Substation of the San Antonio Police Department: 1-18 Sid McDonald, Daniel Zamora, Kevin Wreser, Joe Esquibel, 1-19 Mavin Cannon, Steven Martinez, Randy Geary, Royce Basquez, 1-20 Ruben Ramon, Steven Howard, Michael Kubena, William Biesenbach, 1-21 and Sergeant Greg Young; and 1-22 WHEREAS, In completing these arrests, the officers 1-23 displayed expertise and superior judgment and the ability to deal 2-1 ably with the sudden and unpredictable challenges of law enforcement 2-2 duty; and 2-3 WHEREAS, The citizens of Texas are grateful to have 2-4 police officers such as these from the West Side Substation 2-5 who are dedicated to making the streets of San Antonio a safer 2-6 place in which to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, 2-7 be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-9 74th Legislature, hereby commend the officers from the West 2-10 Side Substation responsible for this arrest and express continued 2-11 support and gratitude to the San Antonio Police Department; and, 2-12 be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-14 the West Side Substation as an expression of high regard and esteem 2-15 from the Texas Senate. 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the above 2-19 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-20 on May 24, 1995. 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
