    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
    1-3  pleasure in recognizing the Sam Houston State University Chapter
    1-4  of Phi Delta Kappa on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, An honor society for professional educators, the
    1-6  chapter was installed on the campus of Sam Houston State University
    1-7  on July 16, 1970, and has made significant contributions to the
    1-8  university and to educators in Walker and surrounding counties; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The 150 members in Phi Delta Kappa represent public
   1-10  school educators, counselors, librarians, university faculty,
   1-11  education service center consultants, specialists, teachers in
   1-12  criminal correctional facilities, graduate students, and other
   1-13  educational professionals; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Members of Phi Delta Kappa pledge to promote the
   1-15  scientific study of education, to foster the profession of teaching,
   1-16  to advance the field of knowledge and a liberal culture, and to
   1-17  uphold the ethical ideals of a life of service; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Since its installment, the Phi Delta Kappa Chapter
   1-19  at Sam Houston State University has developed and grown into an
   1-20  affiliate with an established tradition of accomplishment; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The primary focus of the chapter is planning six
   1-22  educational programs each year for the membership; other chapter
   1-23  projects include member participation in annual leadership training
    2-1  and travel seminars supporting the national Educational Foundation
    2-2  and planning special institutes and research projects; now,
    2-3  therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-5  74th Legislature, hereby commend the Sam Houston State University
    2-6  Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa as it celebrates its 25th anniversary
    2-7  and congratulate its members for their notable contributions to
    2-8  the field of education; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-10  chapter as an expression of the appreciation and high regard of
   2-11  the Texas Senate.
