    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  recognize the Gregory-Portland High School Academic Team which
    1-4  recently won the First Place Team Award in Conference 4A at the
    1-5  University Interscholastic League Meet; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The University Interscholastic League offers the
    1-7  most comprehensive literary and academic program in the nation;
    1-8  and
    1-9        WHEREAS, These activities are designed to complement the
   1-10  academic curriculum, to motivate students as they acquire higher
   1-11  levels of knowledge, to challenge students to confront issues of
   1-12  importance, and to provide students with the opportunity to
   1-13  demonstrate mastery of specific skills; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The Academic Team from Gregory-Portland High School
   1-15  won the First Place Team Award in Conference 4A and the Calculator
   1-16  Applications Team also garnered first place with individual winners
   1-17  scoring an impressive number of points in several categories; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Individually, Brian Lytle won a first place on
   1-19  the Calculator Applications Team, second place in calculator
   1-20  applications, and sixth place in number sense; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Kevin Kalich made a good showing with a first place
   1-22  on the Calculator Applications Team and a first place in calculator
   1-23  applications; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The excellent showing continued with Smita Dalvi
    2-2  winning first place on the Calculator Applications Team,
    2-3  Matt Jolley winning fourth place in poetry interpretation,
    2-4  Robert Jones winning first place in extemporaneous persuasive
    2-5  speaking, and Craig Kotfas winning first place in prose
    2-6  interpretation; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, The family and friends of these outstanding young
    2-8  people are justly proud of the team championship which they won;
    2-9  and
   2-10        WHEREAS, Blessed with outstanding teachers who prepared the
   2-11  academic team members, they were fortunate to receive the guidance
   2-12  which contributed to their success; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, The accomplishments of our state's young citizens
   2-14  are a source of pride for all Texans and the academic team from
   2-15  Gregory-Portland High School is certainly worthy of legislative
   2-16  recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-17        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-18  74th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Gregory-Portland High
   2-19  School academic team on their first place victory; and, be it
   2-20  further
   2-21        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-22  team as an expression of the highest esteem from the Texas Senate.
