No. 1192 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Texas and Japan enjoy a strong friendship and 1-3 business relationship; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Of the leading investing countries in Texas, Japan's 1-5 investment grew fastest in the 1981-91 period; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Japan tripled its share of total foreign direct 1-7 investment in Texas between 1981 and 1991, rising from two percent 1-8 to six percent of total foreign direct investment in the state; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Japanese-owned establishments now account for one 1-10 out of 10 jobs provided by foreign companies in Texas, providing 1-11 a total of 31,300 jobs; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Japan is Texas' third largest export destination, 1-13 accounting for almost $2 billion of exports in 1993; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Many Texas corporations have developed successful 1-15 joint ventures with Japanese corporations; now, therefore, be it 1-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-17 74th Legislature, hereby honor Japan and recognize Sun & Star 1996, 1-18 the most significant festival of the extraordinary achievements of 1-19 Japanese culture ever to be held in the United States. 1-20 ______________________________________ 1-21 President of the Senate 1-22 I hereby certify that the above 1-23 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-1 on May 25, 1995. 2-2 ______________________________________ 2-3 Secretary of the Senate 2-4 ______________________________________ 2-5 Member, Texas Senate
