    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize Keisha Merritt for her outstanding work in the office
    1-4  of Representative Glen Lewis; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Keisha was a participant in the Texas Legislative
    1-6  Internship Program sponsored by the Mickey Leland Center on World
    1-7  Hunger and Peace at Texas Southern University; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, This excellent internship program, established
    1-9  in December of 1990, provides a unique opportunity for minority
   1-10  students of Texas colleges and universities to serve as interns
   1-11  in the Texas Legislature and at various state agencies; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Students receive academic credit for participating
   1-13  in the program, which combines academic study and research with
   1-14  supervised practical training; Senator Rodney Ellis serves as a
   1-15  program advisor, and the Senator's office assists with coordinating
   1-16  the on-site activities; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, As an intern, this highly motivated student has
   1-18  gained firsthand knowledge of the governmental process and work
   1-19  experience in a political environment, as well as insight into the
   1-20  issues facing our communities and our state today; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, A diligent, resourceful, and talented young
   1-22  Texan, she skillfully handled the multifaceted duties of the
   1-23  representative's office and ably assisted with the needs of
    2-1  constituents; now, therefore, be it
    2-2        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-3  74th Legislature, hereby commend Keisha Merritt for her
    2-4  exceptional contributions to the office of Representative Lewis
    2-5  and extend best wishes to her for the future; and, be it further
    2-6        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-7  Keisha as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
