By: Montford S.R. No. 1221 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Jose S. Ramirez 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-6 family and friends of Jose S. Ramirez in mourning his death 1-7 on May 13, 1995, at the age of 76; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez was born March 29, 1919, in 1-9 Orange Grove, and, following the end of World War II, married 1-10 his beloved wife, Aeropajita Sanchez, on July 18, 1946, in 1-11 Mercedes; and 1-12 WHEREAS, They made their final move in 1955 when they moved 1-13 to Lubbock and set down roots in the community; at first he was a 1-14 route salesman for Borden Company, and then in 1968, they opened 1-15 their own business, Jose's Dining Room; working long and dedicated 1-16 hours, he built the restaurant into a community institution; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A man of ability and unquestioned integrity, he 1-18 possessed a warm and caring character; Mr. Ramirez found time 1-19 to devote to community organizations, being elected to the Lubbock 1-20 School Board in 1974 and serving for 12 years; he was also a board 1-21 member of Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Boy Scouts, and Lubbock Juvenile 1-22 Authority; further, he was a member of the Lubbock Hispanic Chamber 1-23 of Commerce, League of United Latin American Citizens, Knights of 2-1 Columbus, and Lubbock Chamber of Commerce; and 2-2 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father who was dedicated 2-3 to sustaining and improving family life and the opportunities for 2-4 children, Mr. Ramirez was the first Hispanic member of the Lubbock 2-5 School Board and Ramirez Elementary School was named after him; and 2-6 WHEREAS, To honor this distinguished gentleman for paving 2-7 the way for increased Hispanic participation in all areas of the 2-8 community, the League of United Latin American Citizens recently 2-9 awarded him a lifetime membership in the organization; and 2-10 WHEREAS, A man of strong Christian faith, he did not shrink 2-11 from life's challenges, but met them with character and strength; 2-12 he provided unceasing support and comfort to others and won a unique 2-13 place in the hearts of everyone who knew him; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 74th Legislature, hereby extend heartfelt sympathy to 2-16 the members of his family: his wife, Aeropajita; his sons, 2-17 Jose S. Ramirez, Jr., and Mario O. Ramirez; his daughters, 2-18 Leticia Ramirez and Raquel Ramirez; his brothers, Manuel Ramirez 2-19 and Lino Ramirez; his sisters, Gloria Saenz, Henrietta Ramirez, and 2-20 Minerva Lopez; and his three grandchildren; and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-22 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-23 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so 2-24 in memory of Jose S.
