No. 1222 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Founded in 1923, Texas Tech University is one of 1-3 the youngest schools in the Southwest Conference but it has become 1-4 a strong leader among its fellow members both academically and 1-5 athletically; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Committed to providing an excellent education for 1-7 its students, Texas Tech University has also had a rich tradition 1-8 of outstanding teams in every sport; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Texas Tech University has the unique distinction of 1-10 being the only Texas school in the Southwest Conference to win four 1-11 championships in the same season; and 1-12 WHEREAS, In 1994-1995, the Texas Tech Red Raiders were 1-13 victorious in football, basketball, and baseball, and the 1-14 Lady Red Raiders were winners in basketball; and 1-15 WHEREAS, After three consecutive second-place finishes, the 1-16 Red Raider football team won the Southwest Conference 1-17 Co-Championship and represented the conference in the Cotton Bowl 1-18 on January 1, 1995; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The mens basketball team claimed the Southwest 1-20 Conference Co-Championship after ending with a 20-10 season without 1-21 losing a home game; the team broke a team record averaging 88.8 1-22 points a game and played in the National Invitational Tournament; 1-23 and 2-1 WHEREAS, Posting a 33-4 season record, the Lady Red Raiders 2-2 basketball team won its fourth consecutive Southwest Conference 2-3 Championship by a four-game margin and advanced to the National 2-4 Collegiate Athletic Association Elite Eight; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The Texas Tech Red Raider baseball team completed 2-6 its highly successful season by clinching the Southwest Conference 2-7 Championship and capped this impressive accomplishment by emerging 2-8 victorious in the Southwest Conference Tournament; and 2-9 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to join citizens 2-10 throughout the State of Texas in congratulating Texas Tech 2-11 University on its momentous 1994-1995 championships and for its 2-12 dedication to the highest ideals of sportsmanship; now, therefore, 2-13 be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 74th Legislature, hereby commend the players, their coaches, and 2-16 the athletic department for their exceptional contributions to 2-17 college sports and for providing such excitement for their loyal 2-18 fans and the City of Lubbock; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-20 these fine athletes as an expression of the high regard of the 2-21 Texas Senate. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 President of the Senate 2-24 I hereby certify that the above 2-25 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-1 on May 25, 1995. 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Secretary of the Senate 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 Member, Texas Senate
