1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 In Memory
1-3 of
1-4 Rene Ruth Stewart
1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the friends
1-6 and family of Rene Ruth Stewart of San Angelo in mourning her
1-7 untimely death on May 12, 1995, at the age of 25; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Miss Stewart was born on October 4, 1969, and was
1-9 a proud descendent of a pioneer ranching family in Sterling City,
1-10 and she and her family were in partnership in the Reed and Stewart
1-11 Ranch; and
1-12 WHEREAS, This exceptional young woman had a large and warm
1-13 circle of friends old and new, to whom she gave unstintingly of
1-14 her friendship and support; she was a positive influence on the
1-15 lives of countless people, especially those in 4-H, Future Farmers
1-16 of America, and her fellow students in high school and at
1-17 Texas A&M, and she will be greatly missed; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Endowed with a strong Christian faith, she was a
1-19 member of the Church of Christ in Sterling City and also began
1-20 attending services at Southgate Church of Christ in San Angelo;
1-21 she was ever modest and graceful, while her talent, hard work, and
1-22 good judgment won her prize after prize, including Class Favorite,
1-23 Homecoming Queen, Most Beautiful, and a host of other honors,
2-1 including impressive prizes in raising and showing livestock; and
2-2 WHEREAS, Upon her entry as a freshman at Texas A&M University,
2-3 her outstanding qualities quickly became apparent and among other
2-4 honors she was elected Outstanding Freshman in the College of
2-5 Agriculture, was elected president of the Freshman Ag Society,
2-6 joined the Saddle and Sirloin Club, which she served as president
2-7 in her senior year, Texas Aggie Cattle Women, and her greatest
2-8 honor was serving on a winning wool and mohair judging team; Rene
2-9 was quickly developing into a first-rate judge of livestock at
2-10 competition levels, and her happiest honor in 4-H was with a
2-11 first-place, state-winning Beef Record Book, which led to her
2-12 making a much-prized trip to the National 4-H Congress in
2-13 Chicago, Illinois; she also held significant positions in Future
2-14 Farmers of America, including serving as Greenhand president; and
2-15 WHEREAS, Her college academic career continued the successes
2-16 of her high school career; she earned positions in every
2-17 organization and virtually every honor in the Department of
2-18 Agriculture; she continued to show championship livestock while
2-19 receiving a Senior Merit Award, graduating with honors, and
2-20 embarking on her master's degree, while at the same time receiving
2-21 numerous scholarships and travelling with three agribusiness field
2-22 study trips throughout the United States; and
2-23 WHEREAS, Gifted with intelligence, ability, and diligence,
2-24 she was also graced with beauty, and this lovely young woman served
2-25 as a Fiesta del Concho ambassador in 1990 and was also a duchess in
3-1 the Waco Cotton Palace Pageant; Rene received the LBJ internship
3-2 with Congressman Stenholm in Washington, D.C., and continued in her
3-3 4-H duties; and
3-4 WHEREAS, In the midst of her busy schedule she also donated
3-5 service hours to Lighthouse for the Blind, the American Heart
3-6 Association, Special Olympics, the American Cancer Society, and
3-7 other charitable organizations; she was a certified aerobics
3-8 instructor and taught daily classes at the Young Men's Christian
3-9 Association and Power Shack; and
3-10 WHEREAS, In 1993 she embarked on her career as a farm
3-11 broadcaster at the Voice of the Southwest Agriculture Radio
3-12 Network and became an active member of the National Farm
3-13 Broadcasters Association; and
3-14 WHEREAS, This outstanding young woman did not shrink from
3-15 life's challenges, but met them with the enthusiasm, character,
3-16 and dignity which earned her so much success and respect; she
3-17 provided unceasing support and comfort to others, and was
3-18 recognized as an outstanding member of the community; she won a
3-19 unique place in the hearts of everyone who knew her; now,
3-20 therefore, be it
3-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
3-22 74th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the members
3-23 of her family: her parents, LeRuth and Danny Stewart; her brother,
3-24 Reed Stewart and his wife, Ronda; her paternal grandparents, Ruth
3-25 and Nolan Stewart; and a special Granny, Cecile McDonald; and, be
4-1 it further
4-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
4-3 family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
4-4 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
4-5 Rene Ruth Stewart.
