    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  note and to congratulate young people of promise, and it is
    1-4  fitting that the achievement of Esteban Rodriguez, the son of
    1-5  Mr. and Mrs. Antonio Rodriguez of Houston, should be recognized;
    1-6  and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Esteban has successfully applied for and won the
    1-8  $10,000 Rhone-Poulenc/Manchester Scholarship for 1995; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Esteban demonstrated his scholarship and ability
   1-10  by earning honors in English and pre-calculus and belonging to the
   1-11  Science Honor Society, the National Honor Society, the English Honor
   1-12  Society, and the Peace Club; he was graduated this year from Milby
   1-13  High School with a 3.6 grade point average; he also belongs to
   1-14  Business Professionals of America, the Key Club, and his church
   1-15  youth group and is listed in "Who's Who in American High Schools";
   1-16  his family, school, and friends are justly proud of his achievements;
   1-17  and
   1-18        WHEREAS, As part of his application, Esteban wrote brief
   1-19  answers on topics of concern to today's youth and indicated his
   1-20  understanding of social problems and made suggestions as to
   1-21  solutions; he also identified the chief influential figures in
   1-22  his life:  his father, his mother, and his pastor; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The scholarship committee selected him as the
    2-1  winning candidate among the applicants who competed for this award;
    2-2  now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-4  74th Legislature, hereby extend warm congratulations to
    2-5  Esteban Rodriguez on winning this handsome scholarship and offer
    2-6  best wishes for his continued success; and, be it further
    2-7        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-8  Esteban and his family as a memento of the occasion.
