1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
1-3 recognizing the participants of the A. J. Moore High School Fourth
1-4 Annual All School Reunion which takes place in Waco, June 30 through
1-5 July 2, 1995; and
1-6 WHEREAS, The theme of this year's reunion is "Reliving the
1-7 Special Moments," and the event is a tribute to all who attended and
1-8 worked at A. J. Moore High School during its 90 years of existence
1-9 from 1881 to 1971; and
1-10 WHEREAS, A. J. Moore High School began as a four-room, frame
1-11 building erected at the corner of Clay and River streets in 1881
1-12 and was the first public school for African American youths in Waco;
1-13 the first graduation consisted of five students in 1896; and
1-14 WHEREAS, The school grew rapidly and many additional
1-15 structures were built over the years; the school's four
1-16 principals were Professor A. J. Moore, Professor J. A. Kirk,
1-17 Professor B. T. Wilson, and Professor J. J. Wilson; and
1-18 WHEREAS, In addition to academic courses, classes were
1-19 offered in homemaking, wood shop, music, art, speaking, singing,
1-20 and community service; in 1964, the Moore High School Lions won
1-21 the state championship in football; and
1-22 WHEREAS, A. J. Moore High School consistently aimed at
1-23 providing resources, programs, and experiences that would inspire
2-1 excellence in student performance, and the students who attended
2-2 are proud of the fine education they received; and
2-3 WHEREAS, The celebration of the fourth annual all school
2-4 reunion is an opportunity for all who attended A. J. Moore High
2-5 School to express gratitude for the high standards the school
2-6 upheld and for the excellent educational opportunities it provided;
2-7 now, therefore, be it
2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-9 74th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes for a joyous event
2-10 to all who are participating in the A. J. Moore High School Fourth
2-11 Annual All School Reunion; and, be it further
2-12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-13 the reunion participants as a memento from the Texas Senate.
