    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  honor Donald H. Sheffield for his 31 years of outstanding service
    1-4  on the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District Board;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Few men have given so selflessly of themselves to
    1-7  their community as has this eminent gentleman; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A longtime advocate of public education,
    1-9  Mr. Sheffield was first elected to the school board in 1964 and
   1-10  began serving as president in 1972; since that time, he was
   1-11  reelected to serve 23 one-year consecutive terms as president;
   1-12  and
   1-13        WHEREAS, During his tenure on the school board, the
   1-14  Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District grew from
   1-15  6,400 to almost 20,000 students, and 19 new schools and a number
   1-16  of new facilities were built; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Widely recognized for his knowledge and leadership,
   1-18  Mr. Sheffield has spoken to groups across the state and country on
   1-19  the importance of public education; as chairman of the Board of
   1-20  Directors for the Texas Learning Technology Group, he communicated
   1-21  the importance of technology and helped to secure financing for
   1-22  one of the most sophisticated science education programs in America;
   1-23  and
    2-1        WHEREAS, In 1990, he received an Award of Honor from the
    2-2  National School Public Relations Association and the Eagle Friend
    2-3  of Education Award from the Professional Administrators and
    2-4  Supervisors Council of the University of North Texas; in 1981, the
    2-5  Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District Board of
    2-6  Trustees was chosen Outstanding School Board by the Texas
    2-7  Association of School Boards; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman and an expert in his field,
    2-9  Donald Sheffield has played a major role in making the
   2-10  Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District the
   2-11  first-rate school system it is today, and his legacy of excellence
   2-12  will continue to inspire others to higher levels of achievement;
   2-13  now, therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-15  74th Legislature, hereby salute Donald H. Sheffield for his 31 years
   2-16  of outstanding service on the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent
   2-17  School District Board; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-19  as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate.
