    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Texas Senate takes great pleasure in
    1-3  recognizing the team members from J. Earl Selz High School in
    1-4  the Pilot Point Independent School District who won the Texas
    1-5  Small Schools Academic Contest recently; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Christopher Cook, Cash Cooper, and Jared Maier
    1-7  won their regional contest and advanced to the state contest,
    1-8  where they defeated 39 other teams from around the state; all
    1-9  questions in the contest are taken from the curriculum for Texas
   1-10  Public Schools; coach for the team is Richard Dane, who is also
   1-11  the principal of the high school; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The son of Buddy and Pauline Cook of
   1-13  Pilot Point, Texas, Christopher Ivan Cook is the valedictorian
   1-14  of the Class of 1995; he is the recipient of a scholarship awarded
   1-15  by the members of the Independent Colleges and Universities of
   1-16  Texas as well as a scholarship from the Texas Education Agency
   1-17  for any college or university in Texas; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Chris has also received the Pilot Point Independent
   1-19  School District Employees Scholarship, the Beta Club Scholarship,
   1-20  the North Texas Board of Regents'/President's Excellence Scholarship,
   1-21  a University of Texas at Arlington Freshman Scholarship, a Texas
   1-22  Wesleyan University General Scholarship, and the Texas Association
   1-23  of Community Schools Scholarship for Academic Decathlon winners;
    2-1  and
    2-2        WHEREAS, A well-rounded individual, Chris is a member of
    2-3  the Beta Club and is involved in church and community activities;
    2-4  he plans to attend Texas Wesleyan University first and then
    2-5  The University of Texas at Austin, where he will major in
    2-6  architectural engineering; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Cash Conrad Cooper is the son of Gail Edward Cooper
    2-8  and Deborah Cooper of Aubrey, Texas; he received the Texas Association
    2-9  of Community Schools Scholarship for Academic Decathlon winners; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, An exceptional student, Cash is planning to attend
   2-11  college to study business and fashion design; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, Jared Eugene Maier is the son of Larry and Pam Maier
   2-13  of Pilot Point, Texas; Jared received a Dr. Pepper Bottling Company
   2-14  of Texas scholarship and the Texas Association of Community Schools
   2-15  Scholarship for Academic Decathlon winners; and
   2-16        WHEREAS, Jared participated in extracurricular activities
   2-17  throughout his four years in high school; an outstanding athlete,
   2-18  Jared participated annually in football, basketball, and track;
   2-19  he is a member of the Beta Club and is involved in numerous church
   2-20  and community activities; he plans to attend Baylor University and
   2-21  major in computer science; and
   2-22        WHEREAS, These exceptional young men have brought recognition
   2-23  to themselves, their parents, their school, and their community and
   2-24  they are truly deserving of legislative commendation; now, therefore,
   2-25  be it
    3-1        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    3-2  74th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Chris Cook,
    3-3  Cash Cooper, and Jared Maier for winning the Texas Small Schools
    3-4  Academic Contest and extend best wishes to them for continued
    3-5  success in their college studies; and, be it further
    3-6        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    3-7  them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
