    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Bridgeport High School became the First Place
    1-3  Team in the 3A Conference at the University Interscholastic
    1-4  League Academic and One-Act Play State Meet held at
    1-5  The University of Texas at Austin on May 4 through May 6, 1995;
    1-6  and
    1-7        WHEREAS, The University Interscholastic League offers
    1-8  the most comprehensive literary and academic competitive program
    1-9  in the nation; it offers more than any other university
   1-10  interscholastic league division in terms of activities, with
   1-11  36 individual activities; each year, more than 500,000 students
   1-12  participate in its academic contests; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Offered at the elementary, junior high, and high
   1-14  school levels, these activities exist to complement the academic
   1-15  curriculum and are designed to motivate students as they acquire
   1-16  higher levels of knowledge, to challenge students to confront
   1-17  issues of importance, and to provide students with the opportunity
   1-18  to demonstrate mastery of specific skills; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Bridgeport High School winners were Joe Newton,
   1-20  Joy Kennedy, Somkit Boutchantharaj, and Brad Garrison; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Joe Newton was the science top scorer in
   1-22  chemistry; his Number Sense Team and Calculator Applications
   1-23  Team won first place, and Joe placed fourth, fifth, and sixth
    2-1  respectively in Mathematics, Number Sense, and Science; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Joy Kennedy was a member of the Number Sense Team
    2-3  and Calculator Applications Team that captured first place and
    2-4  was an individual winner placing first in Number Sense, fourth
    2-5  in Calculator Applications, and fifth in Mathematics; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Somkit Boutchantharaj was a member of the first
    2-7  place Calculator Applications Team and Brad Garrison was a member
    2-8  of the first place Number Sense Team; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Bridgeport High School and the school's
   2-10  individual winners are to be commended for their splendid academic
   2-11  performances at the University Interscholastic Academic State
   2-12  Meet; now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-14  74th Legislature, hereby congratulate Bridgeport High School and
   2-15  the students who participated in the University Interscholastic
   2-16  League Academic and One-Act Play State Meet and extend best
   2-17  wishes to them for continued success in their future endeavors;
   2-18  and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-20  this distinguished group of scholars as an expression of the high
   2-21  regard of the Texas Senate.
