No. 1293 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest honor a 1-3 Senior Girl Scout can achieve in Girl Scouting; the award recognizes 1-4 superior achievement in the areas of leadership, community service, 1-5 career planning, and personal development; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the United States of America is an 1-7 organization of over 2.6 million girls and has awarded more than 1-8 20,000 Girl Scout Gold Awards to Senior Girl Scouts since the 1-9 establishment of the program in 1980; and 1-10 WHEREAS, To receive the prestigious award, a Girl Scout must 1-11 fulfill five requirements: earn four interest project patches, earn 1-12 the Career Exploration pin, earn the Senior Girl Scout Leadership 1-13 Award, earn the Senior Girl Scout Challenge, and design and 1-14 implement a Girl Scout Gold Award project; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A plan for fulfilling the requirements of the award 1-16 is created by the Senior Girl Scout and is carried out through close 1-17 cooperation between the girl and an adult Girl Scout volunteer; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The Girl Scout Gold Award is recognized with 1-19 numerous scholarships at institutions of higher education across the 1-20 United States; Girl Scout Gold Award recipients have made important 1-21 contributions to the quality of life in our home communities; now, 1-22 therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 74th Legislature, hereby proclaim June 8, 1995, Girl Scout Gold 2-2 Award Day in Dallas, Texas, and urge the citizens of Dallas to 2-3 support in every way the endeavors of Girl Scouts. 2-4 ______________________________________ 2-5 President of the Senate 2-6 I hereby certify that the above 2-7 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-8 on May 28, 1995. 2-9 ______________________________________ 2-10 Secretary of the Senate 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 Member, Texas Senate
