By: Sims S.R. No. 1303 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 E. B. Underwood, Sr. 1-5 WHEREAS, E. B. Underwood, Sr., was an extraordinary man 1-6 whose death on February 6, 1995, was a painful loss to his family 1-7 and many friends; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born in 1916 in Rogers, Texas, this fine individual 1-9 graduated from Rogers High School, attended Southwest Texas State 1-10 University, and obtained his law degree from The University of Texas 1-11 at Austin in 1949; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Mr. Underwood was a graduate of the first Texas 1-13 Highway Patrol class in 1935, served as a highway patrolman in 1-14 Lubbock, Beeville, Seguin, and Austin, and was assigned in 1946 to 1-15 executive security working as an escort for Governor Beauford Jester 1-16 and Governor Allan Shivers; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Underwood practiced law in Ballinger for 40 1-18 years primarily in business, corporate, real estate, probate, 1-19 and oil and gas and was instrumental in organizing several local 1-20 businesses; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Mr. Underwood demonstrated exemplary patriotism 1-22 by volunteering for the military after the Japanese attack on 1-23 Pearl Harbor and serving in the Army Air Corps Intelligence in 2-1 India until 1945; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Mr. Underwood was a dedicated citizen in his 2-3 community, serving on the Ballinger School Board, as president 2-4 of the Quarterback Club, as president of the Lions Club, and as 2-5 organizer of the Downtown Bible Class; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Underwood's compassion, integrity, and 2-7 commitment to old-fashioned values served as an important example 2-8 to all who knew him, and his legacy is indeed worthy of special 2-9 recognition and remembrance; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 74th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of 2-12 E. B. Underwood, Sr., and extend sincere condolences to his 2-13 wife, Bobbie Underwood, and to his children, grandchildren, and 2-14 great-grandchildren, and to the many other friends and relatives 2-15 of this fine gentleman; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That official copies of this Resolution be prepared 2-17 for the members of his family as an expression of the deepest 2-18 sympathy of the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns 2-19 this day, it do so in memory of E. B.
