    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           Rene Ruth Stewart
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
    1-6  of Sterling City in mourning the untimely loss of Rene Ruth Stewart
    1-7  who died May 12, 1995, at the age of 25; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born October 4, 1969, in Sterling County, to LeRuth
    1-9  and Danny Stewart, Rene was a descendant of a pioneer ranching
   1-10  family; she grew up loving ranching and livestock competition,
   1-11  and at the time of her death, she and her family were in a
   1-12  partnership in the Reed and Stewart Ranch and she had accumulated
   1-13  a host of championship ribbons from her livestock projects; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, A source of strength and joy to others, Rene Stewart
   1-15  lived her life to the fullest--rich in friendships, love, and
   1-16  cherished experiences; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Rene kept pace with an unusually
   1-18  challenging schedule; it was the schedule she chose to follow and
   1-19  one that mirrored her enthusiasm, her generosity, and her
   1-20  extraordinary vivacity; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Rene became a member of the Texas Junior Hereford
   1-22  Association at the age of eight and later served as state president
   1-23  and as the Texas Hereford Queen; for her first-place National
    2-1  Achievement Record Book, she received the Golden Bull Award, the
    2-2  highest award given in the American Junior Hereford Association; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, A member of the 4-H Club for 10 years, she was local
    2-4  president for six years and earned the Gold Star Award, a Houston
    2-5  Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarship, and the State Fair of Texas
    2-6  Rural Youth Honoree Award; she reached her highest goal in 4-H with
    2-7  a first place, state-winning Beef Record Book, resulting in the
    2-8  coveted trip to the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, Illinois; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, She served as Greenhand president of Future Farmers
   2-10  of America and was elected FFA Chapter Sweetheart for three years;
   2-11  her livestock projects included approximately 10 shows a year in
   2-12  which she showed registered Herefords and garnered 51 championships
   2-13  and more than 500 ribbons and banners; and
   2-14        WHEREAS, An outstanding student at Sterling City High School,
   2-15  Rene was elected Miss SHS, Class Favorite, Most Beautiful, Most
   2-16  Studious, Football Sweetheart, and Homecoming Queen; she
   2-17  participated in cheerleading, track, basketball, University
   2-18  Interscholastic League, and poetry; she was also a member of
   2-19  the National Honor Society; and
   2-20        WHEREAS, Rene graduated magna cum laude in 1992 from Texas A&M
   2-21  University with a bachelor of science degree in animal science and
   2-22  received a master's degree in agricultural development; she was
   2-23  named the Outstanding Freshman in the College of Agriculture and
   2-24  was a member of the winning wool and mohair judging team; and
   2-25        WHEREAS, A member of the Zeta Honor Society, Rene was
    3-1  president of the Saddle and Sirloin Club and the Ag Council and
    3-2  received the Brewer Award for the Outstanding Senior in the animal
    3-3  science department; she was frequently on the Dean's Honor Role
    3-4  and received a fellowship to work for the Texas A&M Development
    3-5  Foundation; and
    3-6        WHEREAS, A young woman of many talents and interests and
    3-7  uncommon energy, Rene began a professional career as a farm
    3-8  broadcaster in July of 1993; she travelled and made friends in
    3-9  both the agricultural community and the National Farm Broadcasters
   3-10  Association; she was also an aerobics instructor and taught daily
   3-11  classes at the Young Men's Christian Association and Power Shack;
   3-12  and
   3-13        WHEREAS, Beloved by all in her community, Rene was an
   3-14  exceptionally accomplished woman whose humility and concern for
   3-15  others was inspirational; she gave willingly of her time to help
   3-16  those in need and volunteered many hours for such groups as the
   3-17  Lighthouse for the Blind, the American Heart Association, and
   3-18  the American Cancer Society; and
   3-19        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Rene was a member of the
   3-20  Church of Christ in Sterling City and had recently attended
   3-21  Southgate Church of Christ in San Angelo; and
   3-22        WHEREAS, Rene Stewart was a remarkable individual,
   3-23  a devoted daughter, and a cherished friend, and she will be
   3-24  greatly missed--yet the life of Rene Stewart will continue to
   3-25  live on forever in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved
    4-1  her; now, therefore, be it
    4-2        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    4-3  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
    4-4  bereaved family of Rene Ruth Stewart:  her parents, LeRuth
    4-5  and Danny Stewart; her brother and sister-in-law, Reed and
    4-6  Ronda Stewart; her paternal grandparents, Ruth and Nolan Stewart;
    4-7  and her special Granny, Cecile McDonald; and, be it further
    4-8        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    4-9  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
   4-10  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
   4-11  it do so in memory of Rene Stewart.
