    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  honor Richard C. Shaw for his outstanding contributions to the
    1-4  AFL-CIO and the citizens of Harris County; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Secretary-treasurer of the Harris County
    1-6  AFL-CIO Council, Mr. Shaw has spent 20 years striving to
    1-7  improve the economic well-being of working men and women; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Houston with a
    1-9  teacher education certificate from Texas Southern University,
   1-10  Mr. Shaw was a teacher in the Houston Independent School District
   1-11  from 1969 until 1975; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, In 1975, Mr. Shaw joined the Houston Federation
   1-13  of Teachers Local 2415 as a charter member and served the
   1-14  organization ably as steward and president; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, After working as unit manager and executive
   1-16  assistant of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal
   1-17  Employees, Local 1550, Mr. Shaw became chief of staff and council
   1-18  research assistant for Houston City Council member Dale Gorczynski;
   1-19  and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Returning to union activity in 1993, Mr. Shaw
   1-21  served as executive director of Local 1550 until his selection
   1-22  as secretary-treasurer of the Harris County AFL-CIO Council; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, His experience, knowledge, and talent will be
    2-1  invaluable assets at council meetings and will be of enormous
    2-2  benefit to the labor movement; now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-4  74th Legislature, hereby commend Richard C. Shaw for his meritorious
    2-5  service on behalf of the AFL-CIO and the citizens of Harris County;
    2-6  and, be it further
    2-7        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-8  Mr. Shaw as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
