    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  join the members of the Pan-Orthodox Christian Church in Houston
    1-4  in commending Jaramogi Abebe Agyeman, founder and Holy Patriarch,
    1-5  for his exceptional spiritual leadership; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, His life work has been dedicated to leading
    1-7  numerous efforts to ensure jobs, better education, and economic
    1-8  and political justice for African Americans; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The former spiritual leader of the Central
   1-10  Congregational Church in Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Agyeman began
   1-11  the Black Christian Nationalist Movement and the initiation of
   1-12  the Shrines of the Black Madonna; he provided the leadership for
   1-13  the development of a new theology that encompasses the Science
   1-14  of Kua, a process that enables individuals to prepare for the
   1-15  Experience of God; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, It is a community-oriented faith, with strong
   1-17  beliefs in the care, education, and welfare of children and
   1-18  families; it embraces the belief that the essential elements
   1-19  of life--food, shelter, security, education, medical care, and
   1-20  economic prosperity--can be achieved as a group; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The patriarch has written two books setting
   1-22  forth the faith of the movement, The Black Messiah and
   1-23  Black Christian Nationalism:  New Direction for the Black
    2-1  Church; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, An effective spokesperson for social change,
    2-3  Jaramogi Abebe Agyeman has set an example and led the way
    2-4  for others to embrace a theology that is making possible a
    2-5  transforming community of black people; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, hereby recognize Jaramogi Abebe Agyeman for
    2-8  his notable contributions to the lives of others; and, be it
    2-9  further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-11  Patriarch Agyeman as an expression of the appreciation of the
   2-12  Texas Senate.
