    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  recognize Andres S. Rodriguez as Honorary Spanish Poet Laureate
    1-4  of the State of Texas; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Recently Mr. Rodriguez published his second
    1-6  collection of poetry, Por Amor:  106 Poesias; this follows his
    1-7  first body of work, published in 1981, El Amor y La Poesia; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez intends for his work to be accessible
    1-9  to younger readers as well as adults, and the poems are written with
   1-10  great simplicity; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Andres Rodriguez is a native Laredoan, and his works
   1-12  embody the rich cultural heritage of his hometown as well as his
   1-13  state; his facility with the written word has made him a respected
   1-14  artist who has helped keep alive the music of living language; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Through his poetry, Mr. Rodriguez has furthered the
   1-16  goals of unity and understanding between the Hispanic and the Anglo
   1-17  cultures; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, His great innovative talents truly make him a poet
   1-19  who is deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it
   1-20        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   1-21  74th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Andres S. Rodriguez
   1-22  as Honorary Spanish Poet Laureate of the State of Texas; and, be
   1-23  it further
    2-1        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-2  Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of the highest regard of the
    2-3  Texas Senate.
