LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session February 14, 1995 TO: Honorable Irma Rangel, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 435 Committee on Higher Education By: Counts House of Representatives Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No. 435 (Relating to the exemption from tuition of a resident student enrolled in the Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf.) this office has determined the following: The bill would exempt deaf students who are Texas residents from payment of tuition and fees for each course in which the person enrolls at Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf of Howard College. Based on enrollment and tuition rates for the fall semester of 1994, the Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf would have foregone $32,852 in resident tuition and fee revenue. Assuming constant levels of enrollment and tuition rates for the future, the Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf would lose approximately $66,000 in tuition and fee revenue each year. Any increases in the tuition rates at Howard Junior College would increase proportionately the amount of foregone tuition revenue. No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
