LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session March 22, 1995 TO: Honorable Keith Oakley, Chair IN RE: Committee Substitute Committee on Public Safety for House Bill No. 523 House of Representatives Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No. 523 (relating to stolen vehicle checkpoints near the Mexico border; relating to the jurisdiction of a magistrate to hear a stolen property disposition hearing; relating to certain information required on a certificate of title) this office has determined the following: The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill. The bill would amend Subsection (b) of Section 411.0095, Government Code, to allow a checkpoint to be established if within 250 yards north of a federally designated crossing at the Mexican border. The bill would amend Section (a) of Article 47.01a, Code of Criminal Procedure, to allow an official having jurisdiction as a magistrate to hold a hearing to determine the right of possession of allegedly stolen property.
