LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session February 28, 1995 TO: Honorable Keith Oakley, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 523 Committee on Public Safety By: DeLaGarza House of Representatives Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No. 523 (Relating to stolen vehicle checkpoints near the Mexico border; relating to the jurisdiction of a magistrate to hear a stolen property disposition hearing; relating to certain information required on a certificate of title.) this office has determined the following: The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill. The bill would amend Subsection (b) of Section 411.0095, Government Code, to allow a checkpoint to be established if it was within 250 yards north of a fedrally designated crossing at the Mexican border. The bill would amend Section (a) of Article 47.01a, Code of Criminal Procedure, to allow an offical having jurisdiction as a magistrate to hold a hearing to determine the right of possession of allegedly stolen property. The bill would amend Article 6687-1, V.T.C.S. to add additional information to the Certificate of Title including: color, body type, make,style and year model of a vehicle.
